The Adairsville Tigers (2-2, 0-1) got off to a quick start against the Ringgold Tigers Friday night but ultimately fell by a score of 47-42.
The first quarter was controlled by Adairsville, which scored the game’s first 21 points. Christian Steel would take a fumble recovery 45 yards into the end zone for the game’s first score. One drive later, quarterback Mason Boswell would find Cody Henderson for a 42-yard touchdown catch. On the next drive, Boswell would hook up with Ethan Belcher for a 36-yard score to give the visiting Tigers a 21-0 lead.
But Ringgold didn’t count itself out.
Andre Tarver would score on a 2-yard touchdown run and Ty Jones would score on the next possession to cut into the Adairsville lead 21-14 after one quarter.
The second quarter was controlled by Ringgold as Cole Kibler would throw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Drak Starks to tie the game up at 21 apiece. Ringgold would score on its fourth consecutive drive and put Ringgold up 27-21 after the missed PAT.
Adairsville found a way to answer when Travon Branch took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and a 28-27 lead. Ringgold wasn’t going away, however.
Kibler would find Tarver for a 20-yard touchdown pass and would then take the ball in himself on the next drive to give Ringgold a 40-28 lead. After being down 21-0, Ringgold would end the first half with a 40-7 scoring run.
Adairsville would strike first top pull within five in the third quarter as Boswell would rush 41 yards for the score, but the home Tigers would answer on the next drive when Jones would rush 25 yards for the touchdown. Adairsville would score last, as Boswell would get his rushing touchdown from 12 yards out.
It wouldn’t be enough as both teams would be held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Adairsville will continue region play next week with a home game against North Murray at 7:30.
