Acworth teen dies from injuries in an accident on I-75 Friday evening

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol say a 14 year old boy died in an Atlanta hospital Monday morning. The accident occurred Friday around 7:47 p.m. A van was parked on the right shoulder of I-75 southbound at Mile Marker 281. Fourteen year old Chris Abernathy was changing a tire, when a tractor trailer traveling northbound left its lane of travel and struck the teenage pedestrian. He was airlifted to Egleston Hospital. He died Monday morning from his injuries. Fifty seven year old Bret Dunham, the boys stepfather was helping him change the tire. Dunham was uninjured. The driver of the truck, 32 year old Albert Riha of Ringgold was also uninjured.
