An Adairsville woman enters a guilty plea to two counts of second-degree cruelty to children.  Destiny Wheat entered the plea via Zoom Thursday morning.  She received a twenty-year sentence, two years to serve incarcerated, and the remainder on probation.

Wheat was jailed in February 2019 following the death of her infant son, James Rylan Wheat.  According to a press release, James born May 12, 2018, had been wearing supplemental oxygen as part of an ongoing issue of sickness stemming from premature birth and other health-related illness. It was discovered through the investigation that James had not been administered the oxygen as prescribed by doctors. Wheat had checked the infant out of the hospital a little over a week earlier; with the warning from hospital staff that doing so could result in the death of the infant.

The assistant district attorney and Wheat’s attorney both agree that she has mental issues. During the hearing, they said Wheat made a horrible decision. Tune to AM 1450 and FM 100.3 for more on the story.
