According to Georgia State Patrol reports, the crash occurred Sept. 21, at approximately 2:50 a.m. A BMW passenger vehicle was traveling north on Glade Road near Apache Drive in Bartow County approximately a quarter-mile from I-75. The vehicle struck a dog while swerving toward the right roadside. The vehicle continued traveling north on the roadside and struck a power pole with its right front. The male passenger in the vehicle was entrapped. The vehicle then caught fire. Bystanders attempted to pull the male passenger from the vehicle but were unsuccessful and the passenger died in the fire. The driver, Darla Smith (22 YOA of Acworth), sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries. Miss Smith was arrested for DUI. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation. Additional charges are pending.
The deceased, male passenger is Beau Johnson (24 YOA of Marietta).
