COPPER

As reported by CBS Atlanta

Three men were arrested Thursday after deputies said they were attempting to steal copper.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a copper theft in progress at a Cobb County EMC power station on Woodstock Road near Highway 92 in Acworth.

Deputies said the suspects had cut and loaded a large amount of copper into their vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they saw two people run from the area. Deputies were able to locate Daniel Richard Demore, 38.

Investigators identified the other man as Erik Davies, 38, as well as a third suspect, Sean Demore, 20. All three men are from Gainesville.

Sean Demore was arrested in Acworth and Davies was arrested in Forsyth County Thursday night.

Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives have been working with detectives in Bartow County and believe the trio is possibly responsible for copper thefts in that jurisdiction also.

All three suspects were charged with commercial burglary, second-degree criminal damage to property and obstruction and are in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention with a $33,400 bond.

The copper was returned to the utility company. The value of the copper and the cost to repair the damage is not completely known, but is expected to exceed $5,000.
