William Frank Bero
Bartow County deputies were dispatched to the Bartow Beach Campground on Sunday morning at around 2:55 in reference to an alleged assault in the area of site 14.
They first made contact with William Bero of Acworth who said he was arguing with his girlfriend and she punched him in the face.
They then spoke with his girlfriend who admitted to punching him the face, but for self-defense. She said William claimed that she was cheating on him, grabbed her mobile phone and backpack, walked down a hill towards the lake, and dumped out all of the items. She said he then threw her phone and car keys into the water.
She said she went into the water to get her phone and upon getting out, William threw her back in and held her underwater for at least a minute before she was able to break free.
When asked about the incident, William said that he held his girlfriend by both her arms near her shoulder underwater briefly, but had no intentions of causing her any harm. He was arrested for aggravated assault for holding his girlfriend down in the water and criminal trespass for interfering with her keys.
