Ms. Linda Benton

After a 23-year tenure, Ms. Linda Benton has submitted her letter of retirement as President of the Cartersville Board of Education effective at the end of the meeting at their office building held Monday night.

At her request, Superintendent Howard Hinesley recommended the board approve former school board member Tim Chason as her replacement on the board effective July 11th. Hinesley said school board attorney Harry White said the board has the authority to do so.

The school board approved the request. Chason will serve the remainder of Benton’s elected term, which ends on the last day of 2019.

Benton had this to say:

Ward Six representative and vice president Kelley Dial has now ascended to president. There will now be a vacancy in the vice president role. The school board has the option of leaving it vacant until January or filling it during a meeting in the near future.
