The Adairsville Tigers fell to the Chatooga Indians 20-0 to open up the high school football season for both teams. The Adairsville defense held Chatooga in check early but did eventually buckle with 1:54 left in the first quarter after Leshaun Lester scored from 16 yards out. The Indians missed the PAT, but the lone score would be enough to hold off the Tigers. Kenneth Slocum had a big interception for Adairsville with time running out in the first half as he snatched the ball from Adairsville’s own 15-yard line and enter the half down six points.
In the first half, the Adairsville offense mustered just 40 yards on 24 plays, while Chatooga gained 151 yards on as many plays. Adairsville was also unable to capitalize on two turnovers by Chatooga, one of which was a muffed punt.
The second half would bring another Lester touchdown and 2-point conversion in the third quarter to push the lead to 14-0. In the fourth quarter, Devon Heroch scored with 11:54 left in the game to give the game its 20-0 final.
Adairsville will play Cass next week. It will be the first game for the Colonels and can be heard on WBHF.
