Wednesday was a long day for the Georgia Highlands College baseball team, as it fell to Columbia State 10-3.

Columbia State scored three runs in the eighth inning. The big inning for Columbia State came thanks to a single by freshman Bradley Wilson and a home run by freshman catcher Alex Vazquez.

Georgia Highlands collected nine hits. Caleb McElwaney, Grant Bodison, and Brandon Bell each collected multiple hits for the Chargers. Columbia State had ten hits in the game.

The Chargers committed three errors in the game, which led to five unearned runs in the contest. Starter Drew Wilson tossed five innings allowing six runs, but just two were earned. Sam Sowerbrower and Jeremiah Woods pitched in relief and allowed 4 runs in just two and two-thirds innings.

It appears that Georgia Highlands will toss right-hander Colby Taylor in today’s elimination game against East Georgia, which lost to Dyersburg Community College 9-6 in yesterday’s contest.

Both teams are from the GCAA conference and matched up against each other four times in the regular season. The Chargers split season series by winning the first two games by scores of 17-0 and 11-2 but dropping the final two games 4-0 and 6-4.

Today’s game between Georgia Highlands and East Georgia will be played at 12:00.
