Yesterday in basketball, the Cartersville Lady Canes beat the Woodland Lady Cats by a score of 54-25. Cartersville improved 5-3 on the season, while Woodland dropped to 0-9. Cartersville jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back. Woodland put together its best offensive quarter in the second with 10 points, but the Lady Canes were still able to outscore their opponent and led 28-13 after one half.

The Cartersville boys basketball team also picked up a win against Woodland Thursday as it won by a score of 49-38. Cartersville improved to 6-1 on the season, while Woodland dropped to 1-7. Jaylon Pugh scored 16 points for Cartersville, which looked to have the game wrapped up at halftime at 24-13 but the Wildcats made a late push in the third quarter. Woodland cut the lead to four at the end of the third quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough to pull out an intra-county win.
