Cartersville (Jan. 1, 2024) — Rowan Kaye Henson, 7 lbs., 9 oz., and 19 inches long, was the first baby of the year born at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center.

Proud parents Dakota Blalock and Colby Henson welcomed their healthy baby girl at 12:56 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Piedmont Cartersville. Steven Spivey, M.D. of Harbin Clinic Women’s Center Cartersville delivered the newborn, assisted by Becca Evans, CNM, of Cartersville OB/GYN Associates.

“The first baby of the new year provides the same magic of a new beginning just as each new year,” said Kelly Costner, director of perinatal services at Piedmont Cartersville. “Babies are a constant source of happiness, wonder and joy and I am fortunate to have been a part of witnessing families welcome their newborns into the world for over 30 years.”

The Piedmont Cartersville Labor and Delivery staff presented the baby’s family with a New Year Baby gift basket in honor of her special delivery.

“Our staff’s commitment to high quality, safe care through continuous training and education is impressive and I am proud to be a member of this team,” said Costner. “We are all thrilled to be a part of Rowan’s family’s special day and would like to congratulate and wish them a very Happy New Year!”
