The Cass Colonels (3-0) defeated the Sequoyah Chiefs on Friday night to improve to 3-0 on the season. This marks Cass’ first 3-0 start since 2007.

The Colonels scored on their opening drive of the game, as Devin Henderson capped the 46-yard drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown. The Colonels missed the PAT but held an early 6-0 lead. The Chiefs were able to get on the scoreboard with a 45-yard field goal Steven Zurita with 11:51 left in the first half.

On their next drive, Sequoyah scored on a 4-yard run by fullback Jaden Mitchell to give the Chiefs a 10-6 lead. Kaleb Speights connected on a 30-yard field goal to cut into the Sequoyah lead with seven seconds remaining in the half.

The next 24 minutes would be defensive driven.

With 3:44 left in the third quarter, Speights nailed down his second field goal of the game as he connected from 43 yards out. That would be enough for the Colonels to win, but with 2:07 left in the fourth quarter, Speights drilled a 45-yard field goal through the uprights to give Cass a 5-point lead.

The final Chiefs drive would stall out on downs and Cass would run out the clock to preserve its third victory of the season.
