In the regular December meeting of the Cartersville City Board of Education, the School Board honored Mrs. Linda Benton for her years of service to the Board by establishing the Linda Benton GateKey Community Service Scholarship. One hundred fifty donors contributed more than $53,000 to establish this special scholarship.
The Board also recognized Cheryl Ende, School Nutrition assistant at Cartersville Elementary School, as the HEARTS Employee of the Month. Cheryl received a $50.00 gift card to Longhorn’s Steakhouse and her name will be added to our perpetual HEARTS plaque displayed at the Cartersville Board Office. New Frontier of Bartow County, Inc. proudly sponsors this award.
Principals gave updates and reports on each of their schools
During the Business Session, the Board approved a bid (only bid received) from DeMoulin Brothers & Company in the amount of $69,786.70 to purchase new CHS Band Uniforms.
Under Consent, the Board approved a resolution to tear down Building 5080, one of two Auxiliary Gyms at Cartersville High School, and replace it with a new athletic facility. Several surplus items were also approved.
During Committee Recommendations, under Finance, the School Board unanimously voted to approve the FY 2019 Budget Parameters as well as the FY 2019 Budget Preparation and Millage Setting Calendar. Also approved was a ratification to dismantle, store and re-construct the high school Football Scoreboard and advertising panels. This action required waiving Board Policy DJED, Bids and Quotations. Martin Signs, the only authorized Daktronics Technician in our area, will do the dismantling and re-construction work. A decision of where the sign will be located will be made after the first of the year. The projected cost for Martin Signs is $11,000. The total projected cost, including bricks and footings, is $15,200.
The Board reviewed and discussed the 2016-2017 Assessment Data presented by the Curriculum Committee.
The School Board recognized Board Member David Apple for his eight years of service on the Board and presented him with a token of appreciation for his service, and thanking him for his leadership during his eight year term on the School Board.
