Press Release:

In the regular December meeting of the Cartersville City Board of Education, the School Board recognized Madison Ryan Walker, CHS student, for receiving her diploma by fulfilling all requirements to be certified as a Cartersville High School Graduate.

 

The Board also recognized Janet Knight, a school nutrition employee at Cartersville High School, as the HEARTS Employee of the Month.  Janet received a $50.00 gift card to Appalachian Grill and her name will be added to our perpetual plaque displayed at the Cartersville Board Office.  New Frontier of Bartow County, Inc. proudly sponsors this award.  “Mrs. Knight offers a welcoming smile each time you enter the cafeteria.  She is so kind and so helpful!  Mrs. Knight takes such great care of the students and staff alike.  She embodies the qualities that make Cartersville City Schools so amazing.  Mrs. Knight is a blessing to Cartersville High School”.

 

Mrs. Kelley Dial was recognized for her 20 years of service on the Cartersville School Board.  She currently serves as President.  Our Board was also recognized for receiving a “Leading Edge” award at the GSBA/GSSA Conference in December.

 

The principals gave updates and reports from their schools.

 

During the Business Session, the System Financial and Utility Cost and Usage Reports were approved.  Also, the Board approved waiving Policy DJED and recommended Davenport & Company, LLC as a financial consultant for financial advisory services in the amount not to exceed $51,000.  Also approved was the adoption of a resolution calling for a referendum authorizing the issuance of certain general obligation debt of the City of Cartersville, Georgia.

 

Under Consent, the Board approved a rental request from Atlanta Quest to use the CHS PE Gym and classrooms for music instruction to school age students, Friday’s 6pm to 10pm and Saturday’s 9am – 10pm from January 8, 2021 – March 28, 2021.  Also, School Nutrition Bid Extensions from the following vendors were approved for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year:  Uniform Source and LaParisienne.

 

Nine surplus items were approved.

 

The Board approved the following personnel recommendations:

Resignations:

– Amber Thompson, CHS School Nutrition Assistant, effective November 11, 2020.
– Lenora Barnett, CPS School Nutrition Assistant, retirement, with regret, effective November 17, 2020.

– Denise Osborn, Kids & Company Director, effective January 4, 2021

 

Classified Employees:

Juanita Scroggins, School Nutrition, effective December 15, 2020.

– Ashley Chappuis-Fontana, School Nutrition, effective December 15, 2020.

 

Certified Employees:

– Kelly Hopkins, Kids & Company Interim Director (49%), effective December 14, 2020 for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

 

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Cartersville School Board will be Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm, at the Board of Education Office, 15 Nelson Street.
