A Floyd County man involved in a custody dispute threatens to jump from a Bartow bridge. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to an area of Joe Frank Harris Parkway Wednesday, December 13th, just before 9 p.m. for a welfare check. According to the report, while driving on Highway 41 over the Cloverleaf Bridge, the officer noticed a man sitting on a concrete barrier over the railroad tracks. When asked if he was okay, the man told the deputy that he did not want to talk and that he was over life. More officers arrived on scene, and the man said he would jump from the bridge if anyone got any closer to him. The man would not give his name. However, he said his ex-wife lived in Florida and would not allow him to see his two children. During 30 minutes of negotiations, deputies offered the man a cigarette and convinced him to stand on the right side of the barrier. The report states that the man broke down and was placed inside a patrol car to wait for EMS. The man was later identified as 37-year-old, Daniel Lee Nelson of Rome. It was later determined that Nelson had an outstanding probation violation through the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to the Bartow County Jail and charged with terroristic threats and acts.
