WBHF has learned of a fatality as a result of a shooting this morning at Fieldwood Drive near Manning Mill in Adairsville. Neighbors told WBHF that a mother and son lived in the single-family home at 546 Fieldwood Drive. The son is accused of fatally shooting his mother to death. Neighbors say he was later located on an Adairsville Football Field. The Adairsville Football practice filed is located behind the homes on that street. Shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, parents of Adairsville students were notified of an incident occurring in a subdivision behind the school that required campus police officers, administrators, and teachers on duty to clear the parking lot and bring all students inside. Students were sent to secure areas as local law enforcement agencies investigated the incident. Within 30 minutes, officers notified school officials that a suspect was in custody and confirmed there was no threat to the school.
Thirty-one-year-old, William David Fletcher of Adairsville was booked into the Bartow County Jail at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday. He is charged with one count of murder family violence with a weapon.
