The Adairsville Tigers lost a heartbreaker on Friday night to North Murray by a score of 23-20.

After the defenses held strong in the first half, both offenses found some steam in the second half. The first half score was tied at three with both teams connecting on 40-yard field goals.

Adairsville finally got on the board in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run by Mason Boswell, but the Mountaineers found a way to answer moving down the field on the ensuing drive. The back-and-forth affair was to continue.

An Adairsville drive stalled, but Emmanuel Lopez kicked his second field goal of the night to give Adairsville a 13-10 lead. The North Murray offense wasn’t done scoring touchdowns, however. The Mountaineers put together a 50-yard drive to take a 17-13 lead over Adairsville with about five minutes left in the contest.

Adairsville strung together a two-minute touchdown drive and it appeared that the Tigers would be able to escape with a victory 20-17. But a little bit of luck, a winded defense, and good playcalling gave the Mountaineers a chance to win the game. With just three seconds left on the Tigers’ 2-yard line, North Murray scored with time expiring to give it a 23-20 last-minute victory over the Tigers.

Adairsville will look to rebound from its two-game losing streak as it travels to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe next week.
