The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is assisting the Acworth Police Department with the investigation of a fatality crash, which occurred on Lake Acworth Drive (S.R.92) near North Main Street. (Inside the city limits of Acworth, Georgia).

 According to investigators, a red 2013 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound in the left travel lane on Lake Acworth Drive (S.R.92) toward North Main Street. As the Dodge was approaching North Main Street, the driver changed lanes into the right travel lane and collided with a blue 2010 Mazda 3.  The driver of the Dodge then steered to the left causing the vehicle to cross into the westbound lanes and into the path of a green 2003 Nissan Altima.  The front of the Dodge collided with the front of the Nissan in the westbound travel lanes.  The driver of the Mazda was able to bring the Mazda to a final controlled rest in the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the Dodgehas been identified as 30year old Michael Whitten of Dallas, Georgia.Mr. Whitten was not injured in this crashA passenger in the Dodge, identified as 22 year old Justin Clark of Dallas, Georgia was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda has been identified as 54 year old Christopher Wilcox of Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Wilcox was not injured in this crash.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 71 year old John Drinko of Acworth, Georgia.  Mr. Drinko was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced deceased from injuries received from the crash. The accident occurred Thursday just after 6 p.m.
