Adairsville Police Department Press Release

After Action Report

On, Saturday, November 16, 2019, at approximately 2040 hours Adairsville Police Department responded to 5939 Joe Frank Harris Parkway (Milania’s Pizza) in reference to a “shots fired” incident. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Matthew Fowler, age 47 of Adairsville, who stated he accidentally discharged his pistol inside of said address. Fowler stated he was attempting to show the leather holster he had made for the pistol to the witness. Officers observed the unloaded weapon that had been fired and secured it. While speaking with Fowler, officers noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Officers then asked Fowler if he had been consuming alcoholic beverages to which he stated that he had several drinks while he watched the game at said address.

     A deputy with the Bartow County Sheriff’s office arrived on scene to assist and administered a breath test to determine if he had been consuming alcoholic beverages, which was confirmed. Officers then spoke with the witness, he stated that Fowler had shown him a holster he made for the pistol. After observing, Mr. Fowler attempted to place the pistol back into the holster when it discharged striking the wall. The bullet then lodged in the wall across the room.

     Fowler was placed under arrest and transported to Bartow County Jail without incident.  Mr. Fowler faces the charge of O.C.G.A. §16-11-134 Discharging a Firearm while Under the Influence of Alcohol.
