Northwest Georgia State Senator Barry Loudermilk announced today that he will be resigning his post in the Georgia Senate to focus on his run for U.S. Congress.

The Senator for the 14th district announced his campaign in April for the house seat Congressman Phil Gingrey will be giving up to run for U.S. Senate.

The decision to move the primaries to May 20th played a big part in his decision. This will allow for a special election to fill the seat on November 5th with the other elections.

Loudermilk has represented much of Northwest Georgia in the State Senate since 2011.

Bob Barr and Edward Lindsey also intend to run for the 12th Congressional seat.BarryLoudermilk
