More football accolades were added to Trevor Lawrence’s football resume over the weekend, as he was named all-class Player of the Year by the Georgia Sports Writers Association. Other Canes named by GSWA as first-team members of the All-Class team: Avery Showell was named as a first-team athlete, Torrian Scrutchins was named as a first team-team defensive lineman, while Antoine Jefferson was named to the second team as a wide receiver and Trey Creamer was named on the second team as an athlete. Head coach Joey King was named the Class 4-A Coach of the Year by the GSWA.

 

A current Atlanta Falcon and former Adairsville Tiger led the NFL in sacks for the 2016 season. On Sunday, Beasley sacked Drew Brees to give him 15.5 sacks on the season, two more than Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, which led the NFL. Beasley was already named to the Pro Bowl and may be able to add a Defensive Player of the Year Award to his already impressive second-year resume.
