Teresa Evans, RN, a Bartow County Health Department nurse for almost four years, received the prestigious Ruth B. Freeman Award for Population Health Practice at the recent Georgia Public Health Association (GPHA) annual meeting at Jekyll Island.  The award is given annually to a Georgia public health nurse in recognition of continued excellence in community-based public health practice.

“Through her many years of working in disease prevention and health promotion,” said Bartow County Health Department Nurse Manager Cathy Green, “Teresa has had a tremendous impact on the community health of our county.  Population-based preventive healthcare is the core function of public health, and Bartow County is blessed to have had such a skilled practitioner to help improve the health of all our citizens.”

Evans worked at First Data/TASQ Corporation from 2000-2006 and in social services from 2006 to 2011.  She began her nursing career in 2011 at Cartersville Medical Center, where she was nominated for Nurse of the Year in 2014.  Evans will serve as secretary for the GPHA Nursing Section in 2018-2019.
