The Woodland Wildcats (0-8, 0-6) continue to improve each week despite remaining winless on the season. Friday night was no different, as the Wildcats fell to East Paulding (2-5, 2-3) Friday night by a score of 28-15.
East Paulding scored early and often, as it led Woodland 21-0 just before halftime. Woodland was down, but not out. With six seconds left in the half, Justice Carter scored on a screen play to complete a 14-play, 77-yard drive. Woodland’s Brody Williams would then convert a 2-point conversion via rushing and Woodland would go into the half trailing 21-8.
Both teams would exchange punts in the third quarter, but East Paulding would score on a 22-yard touchdown pass to extend its lead and again put Woodland’s fight to the test. Woodland, a team that has been resilient all season, proved again that teams don’t need to “sleep walk” through games. Carter would score on a 10-yard run and pull within 13, but the game was about to get tense. East Paulding would fumble with 20 seconds left in the third quarter and Woodland had a chance to make this a one-score game.
Woodland would drive all the way to the East Paulding 20-yard line but was facing a 4th and nine. After a false start penalty, Brody Williams would drop back only to be sacked on the play and Woodland would turn the ball over on downs.
East Paulding would hold on for the 28-15 victory, despite a fight from the Wildcats.
Woodland has a bye week next week but will travel to Kell (6-1, 5-0) on October 28th for a road game at 7:30.
