The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northern and central Georgia, effective from 5 a.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Various types of winter precipitation are expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations ranging from one to two inches. There may be isolated areas in the mountains receiving up to three inches. Additionally, the NWS expects ice accumulations to be between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch, with localized amounts potentially reaching four-tenths of an inch in northeast Georgia.

Road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may result in widespread and prolonged power outages. Due to the ice, tree damage and power interruptions are also highly likely. Travel may become nearly impossible, impacting Friday’s morning and evening commutes.

If you must travel, please keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle for emergencies. You can check the latest road conditions by calling 511.

It is advisable to consider delaying all travel. If you must go out, please use extreme caution.
