We have an update on the alleged stabbing that occurred at 376 Old Mill Road Apartment 43 in Cartersville on Sunday night, October 28th.

Upon Cartersville Police arrival, Cartersville Fire was already on the scene and advised that a male had multiple stab wounds to his neck and torso. The male, later identified as Tony Payne, stated that his neighbor Bryan and two black guys had stabbed him.

Upon entering apartment 44, an officer observed a white male that was Bryan Hale and a black male identified as Donald Scott and detained them pending the outcome of the investigation. Donald Scott had an outstanding failure to appear warrant through the Jonesboro Police Department and was arrested.

A witness stated that Tony Payne attacked her son (Bryan Hale) with a can of soup. She stated that she was not aware that Payne had been stabbed. The officer was unable to locate any items that looked like they were used in the stabbing.

Bryan Hale stated that he dropped his lighter outside and Tony Payne charged at him with a can of soup when he went to pick it up. Hale added that at that point, they both went “rolling” on the ground. Hale stated that he wasn’t aware of any weapons being used during the fight and that he did not stab Payne.

A witness who lived two doors down from Tony Payne stated that she was standing in the doorway of her apartment when she saw a fight breakout between Payne and Bryan Hale. She stated that she saw Payne walk out of his apartment and immediately get pushed down by Hale and Donald Scott. She added that she saw Hale stab Payne. She stated that there were three to four males involved.

One of the males that was said to be involved stated that he came outside to let his dog out and saw Tony Payne on the ground with Bryan Hale standing over him saying “that’s what the ____ you get for coming at me.”

Based on the witness statements and the statement of Tony Payne, both Bryan Hale and Donald Scott were arrested for aggravated assault.
