Two accidental residential shootings occurred in Bartow County today.

The first occurred on East Heritage Drive in Rydal (which is south of East Valley Road) Wednesday afternoon. An 18-year-old male shot himself in the thigh with no visible exit wound.

The wound was quickly assessed and treated by Bartow County EMS. However, due to the severity of the injury, the patient had to be flown to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The second occurred at a residence on Benfield Circle in Cartersville (which is east of Grassdale Road) Wednesday evening. A 31-year-old cleaning his firearm shot himself in the leg. Again, there was no visible exit wound.

Bartow County EMS assessed the wound and began treatment. He was taken to Cartersville Medical Center for further treatment.
