On Tuesday around 12:15 a Cartersville Police Officer observed a black 2000 Ford Mustang with a crack in its front windshield that obstructed the driver’s view. The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop at the Citgo on Cassville Road, but Christopher Bennett, the vehicle’s driver, began to speed up.

Bennett violated several traffic laws including driving on the wrong side of the road during the pursuit and continued on Cass-White Road and then turned onto Highway 41. He then made a left turn onto Brown Loop Road, before making a U-Turn at the Budgetel Parking Lot on Carson Loop Road to get back on Brown Loop Road in the other direction. Bennett’s mustang then landed in a ditch on Brown Loop Spur. He then exited the vehicle and tried to elude officers on foot. Into the treeline. The officer chasing Bennett suffered an ankle sprain and several cuts to his wrist.

Bennett was apprehended by multiple agencies and was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest resulted in a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine residue, a small straw containing an unknown residue and a small piece of glass covered in an unknown residue.

Bennett was transported to the Bartow County Jail and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Obstruction, Possession of Drug Related Objects, Battery, and several other charges. Bennett also had an active probation violation warrant through Bartow County.
