Monday around 1:40 A.M., a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation on State Route 113 at Dry Creek Road in Polk County. The violator fled the scene and crashed into a curve on Old Alabama Road just east of Bates Road in Bartow County. The vehicle struck a guardrail twice and attempted to continue east on Old Alabama Road after impact. The trooper performed the P.I.T. maneuver that terminated the pursuit. During the P.I.T. maneuver, the passenger threw a handgun out of the passenger side window. The trooper was able to apprehend both the driver and passenger without incident. The patrol vehicle sustained minor damage. Two handguns were recovered and the passenger has been confirmed to be a convicted felon. There were no injuries to the trooper or the suspects in the fleeing vehicle.
