The suspect who was shot in an officer-involved shooting at Love’s Travel Stop on Old Allatoona Road in Emerson on August 23rd was booked into the Bartow County Jail on Thursday afternoon.
51-year-old Jose Rafael Caballero of Greer, South Carolina has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a gun.
Bartow County deputies and Emerson Police officers responded to Love’s at around 6:05 the evening of August 23rd to Caballero threatening to harm himself.
He was armed with a handgun and was allegedly pointing it at officers. Two Emerson Police officers and one Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy fired multiple times, striking Caballero.
He was transported to Kennestone Hospital in critical, but stable condition.
No officers were injured during this incident.
