A state inmate was fatally wounded while working with the Cartersville Sanitation Department Wednesday. The accident occurred just after 1 p.m. A prisoner from the Floyd County Prison was riding on the back of a garbage truck at Jones and Church Street. The inmate was pinned to a utility pole as the truck backed down Jones Street and sideswiped the pole. The victim’s identity will be released pending notification of his family. No charges were filed. Officials with the Georgia State Patrol say once completed, the case will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
