Around 5:45 Monday afternoon, a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a Honda Accord for a seat belt violation on State Route 3 near Baker Road. The vehicle did not stop and made several turns before spinning out. The Honda then sideswiped the bumper of the patrol car, left the roadway, traveled through a ditch and a yard before continuing to flee. On Sugar Valley Road, the Honda passed a vehicle in a curve, swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, left the roadway, struck a culvert and tree before overturning several times. The driver was ejected and the passenger was partially ejected.

The driver, a 26-year-old female, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries and the 26-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Grady with head injuries. At the time of this report, troopers were working to confirm the identities of the two people in the car. Both are believed to be from the Bartow County area.

At the time the vehicle crashed, there was no contact between the fleeing vehicle and the patrol car. Also this did not involve a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver.
