Bartow County deputies may have arrested Crips gang members at the scene of a broken-down vehicle on I-75 southbound near mile marker 280 between Emerson and Acworth early Saturday morning.
A tow-truck driver called dispatch saying he smelled marijuana and wanted law enforcement to search the white 2013 Dodge Charger with a Tennessee temporary license plate before he towed it.
The alleged driver, 19-year-old Keyshawn Thomas Chunn of Chattanooga, Tennessee, reportedly did not comply with instructions, so a deputy took him down to take control and detain him.
Deputies reportedly found a handgun with magazines, a scale, a bag full of marijuana, plastic baggies, pills they believed to be ecstasy, an AR-15-style firearm, a different Tennessee license plate, and a Georgia license plate. Dispatch reportedly learned that the car was from Alabama.
Deputies also detained and arrested the passenger, 19-year-old Jamil De’Shaun Roberson of Chattanooga.
Deputies believe they are with Crips based on the attempt to conceal the identity of the car, possessing a blue firearm, having several pieces of blue clothing, and Chattanooga being a commonly known area for Crips. They also seized three black phones and one red phone at the scene.
Keyshawn Chunn and Jamil Roberson received charges of possession of firearms during the commission of certain crimes, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance in schedule one, possession of marijuana, and possession and use of a drug-related object. Chunn also was charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer.
