We know more about a wreck that claimed the life of a Cartersville Police officer in Paulding County Thursday.  According to Georgia State Patrol reports, the crash occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m.  GSP was dispatched to a possible fatality traffic crash involving three vehicles on Highway 278/Rockmart Hwy. in Paulding County. A 2011 Kia Sorrento, driven by 32-year-old Sarah Barnes of Rockmart was traveling east in the left lane. The vehicle traveled into the north median and overcorrected returning back into the eastbound lanes of the roadway. The Kia overcorrected again and traveled across the median and into the westbound lanes of the roadway. A 2018 Jeep Renegade, driven by 33-year-old Casey Barron of Dallas was traveling west in the left lane. The Jeep Renegade attempted to change lanes into the right lane and struck the Kia Sorrento on the passenger’s side with its front. A 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by 74-year-old Addie Slade of Marietta struck the Jeep Renegade in the right rear with its front. Barnes was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at Wellstar Paulding Hospital.  Casey Barron and Addie Slade were both injured and transported to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries.
