A tractor-trailer driver accused of causing the death of a Cartersville woman was sentenced in Bartow Superior Court Wednesday morning. Fifty-three year old Ivan Delgado entered guilty pleas to involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and second-degree cruelty to children charges. He was sentenced to serve 10 years in the state penitentiary and 10 years on probation. He must also pay restitution totaling $7,373 for funeral expenses.
Delgado lost control of his truck while delivering to Zepp Inc. The vehicle travelled down a hill, across both sides of the highway and pinned Kyra Karr’s vehicle to the road’s railing. She died in the crash, her husband and three children were transported to the hospital.
Delgado was charged with driving under the influence. Attorney Chris Paul said his client had taken medication and that his body had not adjusted to the prescription meds.
While addressing the judge, Karr’s family told Delgado that they harbored no resentment or hatred toward him. Delgado asked for forgiveness and told them that he prayed for them each day.
