With playoffs on the line, every softball game the county plays brings it closer and closer to playoff baseball and added stress and importance of every game. The Adairsville softball team dropped to 8-10 on the season and 5-7 in region play with an 8-0 loss to Sonoraville. The Excel softball team was handed an 8-0 defeat by defending state champions, Gordon Lee. Excel dropped to 8-11 on the season and 2-7 in region play. The Lady Canes were the third county team to drop a softball game yesterday, as they fell 4-3 to Chapel Hill. Cartersville is now 12-10 on the season, but just 4-6 in region play. The fourth county team to lose a game last night was Cass, which fell to Villa Rica by a score of 10-2. The Lady Colonels are now 5-18 on the season and 3-8 in region play. Woodland was the lone team to win a game last night, as it beat Hiram by a score of 6-1 to move to 8-15 on the season, 4-7 in region play, and in a position to claim the sixth seed in its region.

In volleyball Woodland and Cass played each other and two other teams last night. Woodland defeated Cass and lost to Hiram, while Cass lost to Rome. The Lady Canes volleyball team earned a split Tuesday night, as they beat LaGrange, but fell to Sandy Creek.

There is nothing on the sports slate today, however, softball returns tomorrow with four local schools in action. Excel will travel to Christian Heritage at 4:30, Adairsville will host Calhoun at 5:30, Cass will welcome East Paulding at 5:55 and Woodland will host Paulding County at 5:55.

In volleyball tomorrow, three local teams are in action with Adairsville traveling to North Murray at 5 PM, Cartersville traveling with Walker to Pope at 5 PM and Woodland traveling with Rockmart to North Paulding at 6 PM.
