The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes baseball team won both games against Redan on Friday night by scores of 12-3 and 11-0 to advance to the second round of the GHSA AAAA baseball playoffs. The Canes will next play on Wednesday at Thomson with Game 1 of a doubleheader to begin at 5:00.

Former Cass football star Tarris Batiste learned some big news on Saturday as he signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons to participate in rookie camp this summer. Batiste, a former Georgia State star, is the second former Bartow County football player to join the Falcons in as many years. Former Adairsville Tiger Vic Beasley Jr., was drafted by the team in the first round in 2015.

The Adairsville Lady Tigers soccer team won its opening game of the AAA playoffs Friday night by a score of 8-1 over West Hall. The Tigers next opponent will be Jackson this upcoming Wednesday.

The Adairsville baseball team could not muster enough runs to take down Dawson County, one of the best teams in AAA, on Friday. The Tigers lost the first game 13-3 and lost the second game 14-12. With both losses, the Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs.

After losing eight of its last nine, the Georgia Highlands baseball team swept a doubleheader over Gordon College on the road Saturday to earn a series split and moved back into position to host a GCAA playoff spot next week. The Chargers won the first game by a score of 9-4 and the second game by a score of 8-3.

There is nothing on the sports slate today, but tomorrow the Georgia Highlands baseball team has its last series of the regular season, as it will travel to West Georgia Tech for 1:00 game.
