VOLLEYBALL

The Cartersville Lady Canes improved to 11-2 on the year when they defeated Woodland and North Paulding on Thursday. Cartersville defeated Woodland 25-12, 25-8 and defeated North Paulding 25-12, 23-25, 25-20.

Woodland dropped two matches to North Paulding and Cartersville Thursday night to fall to 2-9 on the season. North Paulding won 25-20 and 25-11, while Cartersville won 25-12 and 25-8.

The Cass Lady Colonels dropped four of five sets to Bremen and Calhoun. Bremen defeated Cass 27-25, 25-22 and Calhoun won 25-23, 19-25, and 25-22.

And Adairsville was swept Thursday night. Coahulla Creek defeated Adairsville 25-7, 25-8, while Heritage-Catoosa defeated Adairsville 25-10, 25-10. Adairsville is now 0-12-1 on the season.

 

SOFTBALL

Sarah Baynard tossed a three-hit shutout Thursday night as the Woodland softball team blanked Hiram at home, 7-0, for their first win of the year. Baynard scattered three hits and four walks in her shutout while striking out seven.

The Lady Cats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and added on in each of the next three frames as they totaled 10 hits.

Woodland is now 1-3 on the season and in region play.

 

A three-run top of the seventh was enough for the Cartersville softball team to escape with a 7-4 region win Thursday night at Chapel Hill. The Lady Canes led 4-1 through two innings, but the host Lady Panthers tied the game with two runs in the third inning and another in the bottom of the sixth.

Cobi Ballard tossed 7 strong innings and allowed just three earned runs, while also striking out three. Paris Poston homered in the first inning and finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Cartersville is now 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in region play.

The tough start to the opening of the 2017 season continued for the Cass softball team Thursday night as they lost at Villa Rica 7-3.

Villa Rica scored four times in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead they would not relinquish. Villa Rica also outhit Cass eight to six.

Cass is now 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in region play.
