And in local sports, several Bartow County Teams were in action Wednesday night for their respective region tournaments. The Adairsville Lady Tigers beat Gordon Central 62-53 and will move on to face North Murray tonight at 7 with a state playoff berth on the line. The Adairsville boys took the No. 3 seeded Sonoraville into overtime Wednesday night and pulled out a 56-47 victory. They advance to face Ringgold today at 8:30 with a state playoff berth on the line. Unfortunately for the Excel boys team, they fell to Mount Pisgah by a score of 62-56 in overtime and were eliminated from the region tournament. They came in ranked No. 22 overall and with the loss, could now be on the outside looking in for the state playoffs. The Excel Lady Eagles also were eliminated from the region tournament Wednesday night, as they fell to Walker by a score of 48-27.

In college basketball, the No. 2 ranked Georgia Highlands Chargers beat conference opponent Gordon College on the road by a score of 77-61 and improved to 24-1 on the season and 12-0 in conference play.

In baseball today, the Georgia Highlands Chargers will play a doubleheader at Lakepoint Sporting Community at 3:00. The Chargers are 4-0 on the season. In basketball, the Adairsville Lady Tigers will face off against North Murray at 7, with a chance to advance to the state playoffs, the Cartersville Lady Canes will play Heritage-Catoosa at 7, also with a chance to advance to the state playoffs, and the Adairsville boys team will square off against Ringgold at 8:30 and will advance to the state playoffs with a win.

Tomorrow on the sports slate, the Woodland and Adairsville baseball teams will play a scrimmage at Woodland High School at 5:30. In soccer, Woodland will travel to East Paulding at 5:30 and Cass will host Southeast Whitfield at 6:30. In basketball, the Cartersville boys basketball team will play their first game of the region tournament against Southeast Whitfield at 8:30.
