A suspect who had threatened to kill law enforecement was apprehended by the Cartersville Police Department Tuesday evening after a standoff.

A countywide BOLO was received from the Kennesaw Police Department in reference to a suspect making threats to kill law enforcement and then himself.  An update to the BOLO  provided a  vehicle description and that the suspect’s phone had been “pinged” in the area of the Quality Inn. 

The Cartersville Police Department and Bartow County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and the vehicle was observed in the parking lot.  While units were preparing to approach the vehicle the suspect was seen fleeing on foot.  The suspect was located a short distance away and was observed to be wearing body armor, a pistol and an assault rifle.

A standoff was then reached while the surrounding area was secured.  While waiting for SWAT to arrive, verbal commands and negotiations were conducted.  These were unsuccessful.  Upon the arrival of the SWAT team an approach was made and The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The suspect was transported to the hospital by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office for an evaluation.
