The Georgia State Patrol released information about a high-speed chase that occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Around noon, a Georgia State Trooper checked a black Toyota Tundra traveling at 91 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone on I-75 Northbound at mile marker 308. When the Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the violator, who has been identified as 22-year-old Victor Moreno-Sanchez of Jonesboro crossed the median and began traveling south on I-75 in an apparent attempt to elude the Trooper. The Trooper pursued Moreno-Sanchez and that he was in pursuit. Moreno-Sanchez reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, and he drove recklessly as he weaved through traffic. Moreno-Sanchez exited the interstate at exit 306, which is the Adairsville exit and the exit to Highway 140. When he reached the top of the ramp, he drove on the right shoulder in order to pass stopped traffic. The Tundra struck a traffic signal support pole with the front of his vehicle which resulted in disabling damage to his vehicle. The Trooper attempted to arrest Moreno-Sanchez who would not comply with commands to show his hands. The Trooper deployed and fired his Taser twice in order to gain compliance, and Moreno-Sanchez was taken into custody and treated at the scene by Bartow County EMS for visible injuries to his face that were sustained during the crash, but he refused transport to the hospital. He was transported and released to the Gordon County Jail. Moreno-Sanchez was found to be in possession of small amounts of suspected marijuana and cocaine, and he was also charged with DUI drugs. The intersection of GA 140 and the I-75 Southbound Exit Ramp was closed for several hours due to the traffic signal and power lines being down within the intersection.
