ROME, GA (SEPTEMBER 2018) – High-speed horsepower will shake the ground and rattle the skies as the Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car thrusts down the runway and Scott Farnsworth blasts through the sky. The 2018 Wings Over North Georgia Air Show presented by JLC AirShow Management host its seventh annual air show at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome, GA on Oct. 13-14.
During previous shows, spectators for the fall event have witnessed the intense force of the 10,000 hp Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car as it challenges various air show performers in a land vs. sky duel. Weighing in at 2,300 pounds and spanning a length of 26 feet, 6,500 pounds of thrust catapults the car to speeds approaching 400 mph in just a few seconds. The land-bound jet car driven by Bill Braack has become a fan favorite as billows of smoke and fire fill the sky in preparation for the high-speed races.
New in 2018, Dash Aerosports pilot and air race champion Scott Farnsworth will push his L-39 Albatross to the limit to showcase the aerodynamic capabilities and speed of the foreign military training jet. Farnsworth will take a break from the air racing circuit to perform in the skies over northwest Georgia. His prowess as a championship racer seamlessly translates into an air show demonstration packed with high speed passes, turns, and aerobatics. His single-engine aircraft can reach speeds exceeding 550 mph with a rate of climb of 4,130 ft/min. Air show attendees will be amazed as Bill’s Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car challenges the jet aircraft in a race to the finish line each day of the air show.
The seventh annual Wings Over North Georgia Air Show will feature a number of world-class military and civilian acts including the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor and A-10 Thunderbolt II Demonstration Teams and a WWII-era reenactment of the attack on Pearl Harbor from Tora! Tora! Tora!
Presented by JLC AirShow Management, opening ceremonies will kick-off on Saturday and Sunday at noon followed by the first flying performances at 12:30 p.m. Airport and remote parking lots will open at 7:30 a.m. with the gates opening to guests at 9:00 a.m. On-site premium infield and standard dry airport camping options are available on-line in addition to advance reserved parking.
