According to Bartow County Sheriff’s Office reports, A pedestrian was struck by a train around 4:30, October 29th , at Jarrett Loop near Hall Station Road in Adairsville.  The responding deputy reported seeing 21-year-old Steven Austin Stroud with a severed left foot.  A witness told deputies that while traveling on Hall Station road he observed Stroud lying on the ground in the roadway near the intersection of Jarett Loop and Hall Station Road.  Deputies spoke with the train’s conductor in Kingston.  The CSX conductor, Antony White told officers that the train stopped for approximately 45 minutes and did not see anyone when the train started moving again.  The train was released for normal operation following the interview with the conductor.

Meanwhile, Stroud told the AJC that he was walking to a friends house and because of how thick the woods were, he couldn’t really see when the train ended.

Stroud said that he stepped on a loose patch of ground that gave way beneath him, causing him to stumble toward the tracks.  He rolled onto his back, putting his left foot in the air— and that’s when something struck his foot.

Stroud is quoted as saying, “I tucked back, and a ladder or a stair hit the bottom of my foot, and even though it really only broke two bones in my foot, it took my pinky toe completely off.”  The foot could not be saved due to the amount of issue and skin lost.

Stroud was able to flag down a school bus full of kids and a man in a pickup truck to call 911.

According to the Go Fund Me post, Stroud’s medical bills are piling up and the family would appreciate any help.
