The Georgia Department of Transportation has recently approved $62,065 in Quick Response Program funding to improve the safety and efficiency of State Route 20 just east of I-75 in Bartow County. Work on this project, awarded to Bartow Paving Company of Cartersville, has just begun. It is expected to be completed in two weeks following the Thanksgiving holiday.

The contractor will add a left turn lane on State Route 20 east of I-75 at the median break in order to enhance safety and improve the flow of traffic at this location.

Work on this project will occasionally require lane closures, night work, shoulder closures, and pacing of traffic. Motorists should be aware of the advanced warning signs and watch out for contractor personnel and vehicles in this work zone.

The Quick Response Program supports low cost operational projects on the State Route system such as restriping, intersection improvements, turn lane additions, and extensions. These projects can be implemented in a short period of time and typically cost less than $200,000. They generally stay within the state right-of-way and require little if any utility relocation. Quick Response projects are identified by Georgia DOT staff and managed through the Office of Local Grants.
