Open Enrollment Extension

A man arrested following a rollover crash that killed two people enters a guilty plea in Bartow Superior Court.  Sixty Year old, Michael Sanders of Port St. Lucie, Florida was arrested in Bartow, July 3, 2017, and charged with two counts for first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, and reckless driving.  He pleaded guilty to two counts second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to maintain lane.  Sanders received a sentence of 24 months of probation.  Sanders remained in custody for 90 days following the wreck.  Toxicology reports determined that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  He told investigators that he doesn’t remember the crash. 

The single-vehicle crash occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on I-75 near mile marker 294.  According to the preliminary investigation, Sanders was driving a 2017 Dodge Caravan. The vehicle struck a guard rail and then a tree.  His finance, 52-year-old Teresa Miller was injured in the crash.  Miller’s sister, Toni age 49 and her father, 78-year-old Ephesian Miller died in the wreck.  They had traveled to Ohio for a family reunion and were returning to Florida. Sanders and his finance appeared in Bartow Superior Court Tuesday for sentencing.
