On Friday at approximately 4:50 p.m., a collision between a Jeep Cherokee and a semi-trailer truck occurred on I-75 southbound at mile marker 293.

The truck was in the right southbound lane. The driver of the Cherokee was merging onto I-75 when she lost control of the vehicle. The Cherokee struck the truck’s right side, which caused it to lose control and hit the bridge rail.

The impact caused damage to the truck’s fuel tanks, which caused a fire to ignite. The semi-trailer truck and the Cherokee came to a final rest on the right shoulder.

The driver of the truck succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The fire burned his remains too severely to identify quickly. The body is going to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations lab for identification, which will take some time.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation. The report is not complete at this time.
