Around 1:00 Saturday morning, an officer with the Cartersville Police Department observed multiple traffic violations which indicated a possible intoxicated operator of a motorcycle on West Avenue at Henderson Drive. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver continued on West Avenue failing to pull over. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Marcus Lee York from Calhoun, failed to negotiate any turn at the intersection of West Avenue and Etowah Drive at a high rate of speed that was too great for him to control. The motorcycle crossed over the sidewalk and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle, which collided with a residence on Etowah Drive. York was transported to the Cartersville Medical Center, where he later died.
