A fifty-six-year-old Emerson woman died in a crash on I-75 Monday morning.   Seventy-three year old, Evelyn Nowell is charged with causing the crash.  She is charged with Driving Under the Influence, Homicide by Vehicle (1st Degree), and Improper Slowing or Stopping on Roadway.  Fifty-six year old, Bobbie Whitman, a passenger in one of the cars involved died at the scene.

Monday, November 18th, at approximately 11:55 p.m., a Chevrolet Impala driven by 73-year-old Evelyn Nowell of Cedartown stopped in the right lane of I-75 northbound in Bartow County.  According to Georgia State Patrol reports, Nowell was under the influence of alcohol and improperly stopped in the roadway.  Meanwhile, a tractor-trailer, driven by 32-year old Brian Walker of Jonesboro was in the right lane and attempted to swerve to the left to avoid Nowell.  The tractor-trailer struck the left side of the Chevrolet Impala with its right side.  The truck then left the east side of the roadway and struck a Honda Accord driven by 49-year-old,  Robert Whitman of Emerson.  Whitman was parked in the east side emergency lane.  The truck pushed the Honda into a guardrail, went through the guardrail, and then the Honda came to an uncontrolled final rest in the right lane facing westbound.  The truck came to a final rest on top of the Honda.  Fifty-six-year-old Bobbie Whitman, a passenger of the Honda died at the scene. Robert Whiteman was transported to Kennestone Hospital with injuries.  Eight year old, Devonte Walker, a passenger in the truck was uninjured.
