Downtown Emerson Evacuated Wednesday Afternoon

City employees shut down downtown Emerson Wednesday afternoon due to a suspicious item brought to the police department at around 12:15.

A citizen located the item outside city limits. Emerson PD contacted the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office to assist.

The Floyd County Bomb Squad and FBI also responded. They determined that the suspicious item was non-hazardous.

As a precaution, city employees evacuated the area until the item was safely disposed of by the bomb squad. They began reopening the downtown area at around 4:00.
