Second-generation family business begins liquidation May 28

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (May 25, 2020) – Family-owned and operated furniture retailer Discount City will close its doors permanently after 56 years in business.

Owner Shawn Jenkins announced his retirement and the closing of the second-generation family business: “I would like to thank all the customers and families that our family has proudly served for more than half a century. It’s been a privilege to be part of this community.”

The Discount City liquidation event will be open to the public starting Thursday, May 28, at 106 South Tennessee St. Across the 18,000-square-foot showroom, the going-out-of-business sale features furniture discounted up to 65% from recognized brands such as Southern Motion, Ashley, Klaussner, Liberty, Vaughn-Bassett, Magnussen, England, Best Home Furnishings and much more.

The vast selection offers major markdowns on a wide range of styles from traditional to contemporary and include leather and fabric sofas, recliners, sectionals, accent chairs, dining sets, bedroom suites, mattresses, lamps and accessories.

The Jenkins family opened the furniture store in 1965 to serve the Cartersville-Bartow communities. It is known for its friendly, knowledgeable staff, low-pressure environment and large showroom filled with a large selection of furniture and home accessories at reasonable prices for the living room, dining room and bedroom.
