On July 8, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2014 Dodge Ram were traveling northbound on I-75 at MM 291 in the right lane. A 2013 Lincoln MKZ was traveling in the left lane. The driver of the Cruze, Gary D. Brooks, age 63 from Chattanooga, TN made an improper lane change when he attempted to change into the center lane from the right lane and struck the left rear of the Ram with its right front. The impact caused the rear of Ram to yaw counter clock-wise into the center lane. The Cruze yawed counter-clockwise and struck the driver side of the Ram with the left rear. The Cruze continued across the left lane and struck the front right of the MKZ with its left passenger side. The Cruze came to a final uncontrolled rest in the median facing east, the Ram came to final uncontrolled rest in the east emergency lane facing north, and the MKZ came to a final uncontrolled rest in the west emergency lane facing south.
Brooks was injured and airlifted to Erlanger Hospital. The driver of the Ram, Yelisey S. Shelyagovich, age 28 from Conway, SC, was injured but not transported. The driver of the MKZ, Joseph D. Muir, age 88 from Sarasota, FL, was not injured. Charges are pending.
